I think the parts where the background goes black represents the dark moments of hip hop and r&b. \n\n-Kanye’s mental breakdown \n-Chris brown’s anger\n-Rihanna and the illuminate crap\n-the deaths of Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. (Which is why they appear in their prime, and look at peace.)\n-and OutKast separating. (They turned their backs on each other.)

This song is a perfect example of why Donald Glover is a genius.\n\nIt's about climate/environmental change, the inability of technologically advanced, urbanized societies to make any real change, and the imminent political crunch we face this century, and it does all that while being a legit good song in every other respect.\n\nEveryone knows that SOMETHING (or a lot of somethings) is wrong, but we can neither agree on what exactly it is, nor how we should respond, and not even whether we should be worried about helping each other.\n\nSeven billion souls that move around the sun\r\nRolling faster, faster, not a chance to slow down\r\nSlow down\r\nMen who made machines that want what they decide\r\nParents tryna tell the children please slow down\n...\nOh, I know you know that pain\r\nI'm hopin' that this world will change\r\n(Ooo, I hope this world will change)\r\nBut it just seems the same\n...\nEvery day gets hotter than the one before\r\nRunning out of water, it's about to go down\r\nGo down\r\nAir that kill the bees that we depend upon\r\nBirds were made for singing, wakin' up to no sound\n\nGambino is the only character in the video who passively observes the neighborhood, watching everyone go about their summer days. Why shouldn't they? Why shouldn't we make use of our fleeting time in the summer sun to live it up? We're only humans.\n\nThis is the futile wish of all of us in this system that it could truly change, salvage some kind of kind, good future for humanity. But it just seems the same.

Kinda sad everyone’s focusing on the artists featured in the animation but not the meaning in the songs lyrics. Talking about how we need to change our ways before it’s too late ( like in the lyrics bees dying, running out of water, ect)

I feel like Gambino is underestimated sometimes. Like this here is a masterpiece no matter if you like his music or not. Genuinely a real thought process was used to make this song and music video. Just wow. True icon. I mean like he’s showing how the media tries to distract your attention from real problems, his visuals show one story but his lyrics tell a very different and real concerning one.
